Aspects Concerning the Longitudinal Dynamics of Passenger Trains During Braking Actions

During the braking action, there appear dynamic reactions between the component vehicles of the train, acting on the shock and traction apparatus. Under certain conditions, these forces may reach high values, affecting the passengers’ comfort and, more important, even the safety of the traffic. Considering the train as mechanical model of an elastic-damped system with several liberty degrees, consisting in individual rigid masses that represent the component railway vehicles and taking into account the constructive and functional particularities of the brake system equipping it, there were determined the longitudinal dynamic reaction developed into the passenger train’s body during the braking actions.
